The memorials permitted at Bristol South Cemetery are all sloping face vase tablets of a regulations size (2'6" x 2'0" x 6" - 3"), set to a standard regulation, pre-cast reinforced concrete foundations slab. These memorials can be carved in two differing styles. Style A is the regular shape vase tablet with a flat face, which can be engraved with a wide range of designs including Open Books, floral designs and religious depictions. Style B is an ornately carved Open Book shape, with curved pages. Materials These memorials can be carved from a variety of marbles and stones but we would strongly recommend that you choose one of the many coloured granites that are available due to its hardness and durability, which is second only to Diamond in nature. The granite can be polished to shine like glass or left with an "eggshell" smooth, un-polished finish. Inscriptions Inscriptions can be in engraved in a variety of styles and finishes. They can be engraved to match any styles on existing memorials or to your exact specifications, although this is normally left to the skill of the craftsmen to create a pleasing and suitable finish. Letters can be engraved and painted such as silver, white or black or they can be gilded using English Gold Leaf (23 % Carat), but for the darker coloured, polished granites we would highly recommend EMBOSSED letters. Embossed letters have the advantage that they are carved allowing the polished granite stone to be left proud, leaving a natural contrast and ensuring that the inscription is clearly legible. The main advantage of EMBOSSED letters is that they ensure that a memorial is virtually MAINTENANCE FREE, with no worry or cost involved with re-painting or re-gilding the inscription at a later date. Designs & Motifs Designs and motifs of favourite flowers, hobbies, pets, religious images etc., can all be engraved as well as decorative borders or book outlines etc. These can help personalise each memorial and we welcome any other personal preferences or designs that you may require. Ceramic Photographs Colour or black & white photographic images can now be transferred to ceramic plaques, which can be set to these memorials. |
